ROAD WORK AHEAD

ColorOrange
ShapeDiamond
FamilyWork zone
Where you see itApproaches to construction and maintenance zones

What it means

People and machines are working on or beside the road ahead. Orange always means a temporary work zone, and fines usually double inside it.

What you should do

Slow to the work-zone limit, put the phone far away, and expect sudden stops, lane shifts, and workers steps from your mirror.

Memory trick

Yellow warns about the road; orange warns about people on the road.

The mistake drivers make

Relaxing because no workers are visible. The lane shifts, fresh edges, and equipment are hazards whether or not anyone is standing there, and the doubled fines usually apply regardless.
