DETOUR

ColorOrange
ShapeHorizontal rectangle with arrow
FamilyWork zone
Where you see itWhere the normal route is closed

What it means

Your road is closed ahead; the arrow begins a marked temporary route around the closure. Follow the detour signs until they return you to your road.

What you should do

Take the arrow, then keep following each DETOUR sign at every choice point. The route is signed the whole way; trust the orange over the navigation app, which may not know.

Memory trick

Orange breadcrumbs. Follow every one until the trail hands you back your road.

The mistake drivers make

Leaving the detour early because the phone map "sees a shortcut." The shortcut usually ends at the same closure, from the other side.
