DMV Test is a study aid for the US driving permit knowledge test. This policy covers both the website (dmvlanguage.com) and the phone apps. They work differently, so they are described separately. It is written in plain language on purpose.
The short version
- You can use the free questions with no account at all.
- If you make an account, we hold your email address and your study progress. Nothing else. No name, no phone number, no address.
- If you buy the Pass Pack, Stripe handles the payment. We never see or store your card details.
- We run no advertising, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
- We never sell or rent your data, to anyone, for any reason.
- You can delete your account and everything in it by emailing us. We do it within seven days.
The website
Without an account, you can answer the free sample questions and read every free lesson. We store a small amount of information in your own browser (which language and state you picked, and how many free questions you have used) so the site works. That never reaches us.
With an account, we store:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address | To sign you in, to send your receipt, and to reach you if something goes wrong with your purchase. |
| Your password, hashed | So you can sign in. We cannot read it, and neither can anyone else who might see the database. |
| Which questions you answered, and whether you got them right | So your progress follows you from your phone to your laptop, and so we can show you what to work on. |
| Your mock exam scores | To show your history and whether you are ready. |
| Whether you have bought the Pass Pack, and when | So the questions you paid for stay unlocked. |
Payment
Payments on the website are handled by Stripe, a payment company used by millions of businesses. You type your card details on Stripe's own page, not ours. We never see, receive or store your card number. What we receive back from Stripe is: that a payment succeeded, the email you paid with, and the amount. See stripe.com/privacy.
In the phone apps, purchases go through the Apple App Store or Google Play instead, under their own terms.
The phone apps
The apps work offline and have no account, no sign-up and no login. Your progress is saved only on your own device and never reaches us. Uninstalling the app erases it.
Who else can see any of this
We use three companies to run the service, and nothing beyond what is listed above is shared with anyone:
- Supabase stores the accounts and progress described above (servers in the United States).
- Netlify serves the website. Like any web host it keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period.
- Stripe processes payments.
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. There is nothing to opt out of, because there is no tracking to opt out of.
Tracking, analytics and ads
None. No advertising, no analytics tools, no third-party trackers, and no cookies used to follow you. The only things stored in your browser are the study settings described above and your sign-in session.
Children
DMV Test is aimed at people old enough to apply for a learner's permit. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has made an account, email us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- See your data: everything we hold is visible on your account page.
- Change your password: from your account page, any time.
- Delete everything: email us from the address on the account and we will delete the account, the progress and the exam history within seven days. Payment records are kept where the law requires us to keep them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new date at the top. If a change materially affects you and we have your email, we will tell you.
