NARROW BRIDGE

ColorYellow
ShapeDiamond
FamilyWarning
Where you see itBefore bridges narrower than the road

What it means

The bridge ahead is narrower than the lanes leading to it. There is less shoulder, or none, and sometimes barely two cars’ width.

What you should do

Slow down, hold your lane precisely, and be ready to yield if the bridge is effectively one lane. Meet wide loads before or after the bridge, not on it.

Memory trick

The road’s shoulders shrug and disappear at the bridge. Yours is the lane, the whole lane, and nothing but the lane.

The mistake drivers make

Passing or hugging the center line on the bridge. Narrow bridges are where mirrors meet.
