LANE ENDS

ColorYellow
ShapeDiamond
FamilyWarning
Where you see itBefore a lane disappears, often after climbs or bridges

What it means

One of the lanes ahead is about to end, and its traffic must move into yours, or you must move into theirs.

What you should do

If your lane ends, signal early and merge like a zipper, one car from each lane. If your lane continues, leave gaps and let them in.

Memory trick

The narrowing lines show the road pinching like the neck of a bottle.

The mistake drivers make

Racing to the very end of the dying lane and forcing in. Also its opposite: blocking mergers out of principle. The zipper needs both sides.
