Where you see itWhere a ramp or lane joins the road you are on

What it means

Traffic is about to join your road from the side shown. Both flows will share the same lanes ahead.

What you should do

If you are on the main road, adjust speed or move over a lane to create a gap. If you are merging, match traffic speed and blend into a gap; do not stop on the ramp.

Memory trick

Two arrows become one: a zipper. Zippers work when both sides take turns.

The mistake drivers make

Merging at half the traffic’s speed. The entrance ramp is for building speed; a slow merge forces everyone behind you to brake.
