PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

ColorFluorescent yellow-green
ShapeDiamond or pentagon area
FamilyWarning
Where you see itMid-block crossings, trail crossings, busy corners

What it means

People cross the road here, often outside any intersection. The glow color marks places where the most fragile road users appear.

What you should do

Scan the curbs, not just the crosswalk paint. Slow if anyone is near the edge; by law, a person in the crosswalk has the right of way.

Memory trick

The brightest color on the road guards the softest thing on the road.

The mistake drivers make

Watching the crosswalk instead of the sidewalk. By the time someone is on the paint, you should already be slowing; read the curb.
