CROSSROAD AHEAD

What it means

A full four-way intersection crosses your road ahead. Traffic may enter from the left and right, and it may not have a stop sign.

What you should do

Cover the brake and scan both sides early. On fast country roads, the crossing car pulling out "from nowhere" is the classic crash this sign predicts.

Memory trick

The + is a bird’s-eye photo of the next intersection.

The mistake drivers make

Assuming the crossing traffic must stop. The sign warns you the intersection exists; it promises nothing about who has a stop sign.
