3 · The 16 signs the test loves, with their memory tricks

STOPSTOP8 sides = 1 meaning. Nothing else on the road has eight sides.
YIELDYIELDTip down = bow down. The sign literally points at your bumper and asks it to wait.
DO NOTENTERDO NOT ENTERThe white bar is a closed gate across a red door.
WRONGWAYWRONG WAYDO NOT ENTER guards the door; WRONG WAY means you are already inside the wrong house.
ONE WAYONE WAYThe arrow is the entire law: everyone goes where it points, including you.
SPEEDLIMIT55SPEED LIMITTall and white = the law in writing. The number is a promise about perfect weather only.
NO U-TURNRed circle + slash = "not here." Whatever is under the slash is the forbidden move.
NONO PASSING ZONEThe flag points at the exact spot the zone begins. Left side, sideways, one of a kind.
SIGNAL AHEADA picture of a traffic light before the traffic light. The road is whispering "red is possible ahead."
MERGETwo arrows become one: a zipper. Zippers work when both sides take turns.
SCHOOL ZONEHouse shape = schoolhouse. The pentagon is the only sign shaped like where the kids are going.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGThe brightest color on the road guards the softest thing on the road.
RRRAILROAD CROSSING AHEADRound = wheels = train. The only round sign on the road is about the only vehicle that cannot stop for you.
SLIPPERY WHEN WETThe car with the wiggly skid tails is what your car wants to do here in the rain.
ROADWORKAHEADROAD WORK AHEADYellow warns about the road; orange warns about people on the road.
